Rhodium is a brilliant white metal used to plate sterling silver jewellery. Its atomic structure is very similar to platinum. Silver jewellery that is rhodium plated will give the appearance of platinum when new.
Although silver takes a very high polish, its susceptibility to tarnish means that the surface must be coated in some way to preserve to high finish. Rhodium plating enhances the look and the durability of sterling silver jewellery. It will also make it tarnish resistant, as the Rhodium plating itself is extremely tarnish resistant. To achieve better quality and longer shelf life our sterling silver jewellery includes two layers of plating.

June Birthstone- Pearl
Pearl is the official birthstone of the month of June. It is also the accepted anniversary gemstone for the 3rd and 30th years of marriage. Pearl jewely is given as a symbol of love. Everyone seems to love the beauty of a strand of pearls. Pearl necklaces are classic pieces of jewellery that are treasured. Adding earrings or a bracelet to create pearl necklace sets is wonderful. Pearls are generally white, brown, silver, cream, black or pink depending on the type of shellfish and water. Pearls are less durable than most gems. They are sensitive to acids, dryness, and humidity. If you wear cosmetics and/or perfume, put these on before wearing your pearl jewellery. When taking off your pearls, wipe them with a dry, lint-free cloth. If needed, clean your pearls with warm soapy water being very careful to not get water into the drill hole as the pearl may discolor. Dry your pearls flat on an absorbant soft (preferably lint-free) towel. The price of pearls vary widely as a result of luster, size, how they were grown, color and type. Natural pearls are the most expensive, followed by cultured pearls. Fresh water pearls tend to be relatively inexpensive. Store pearl jewellery separately from other jewellery as they will scratch. Store pearls in a dry environment. Avoid using plastic bags (as moisture may get trapped and cause damage).
Claddagh Rings
Some 400 years ago in a fishing village called Claddagh overlooking Galway Bay, close to the city of the Tribes, lived Richard Joyce a Master Goldsmith. It was he who crafted this now famous design that has become part of the IRISH heritage. The Claddagh Ring belongs to a widespread group of finger rings called Fede or "Faith rings" which date from Roman times. They are distinguished by having the bezel cut or cast in the form of two clasped hands, symbolising faith, trust or "plighted troth". The "Claddagh" ring is a particularly distinctive ring; two hands clasp a heart surmounted by a crown. The ring worn on the right hand, crown turned inward tells your heart is yet unoccupied, worn with the crown turned outwards reveals love is being considered. Worn on the left hand the crown turned outward shows all, your heart is truly spoken for. The claddagh design symbolizes friendship, loyalty and love. |
